It Was a Good News/Bad News Type of Day

July 3rd, 2022

This is one of those good news/bad news situations.

Beautiful day today, so decided to take a walk in the park. Drove over there and rode through the park to see how crowded it would be. There were a lot of people but not overly crowded. Before I stopped, I decided to get gas, not knowing how early the gas station might close this holiday weekend.

Went to the station, turned off the car and asked the attendant to please fill it up. I’ve been going to this station a lot lately because, for some reason, I get about sixty more miles per tank then I got with other brands.

Paid the man, turned the key and – nothing.

Bad news: Car won’t start

Good news: It died in a gas station garage and not at the park.

The attendant, turns out, is the mechanic and did everything he could to get the car started, but it just wouldn’t turn over. He determined it was the starter.

I don’t have Uber, so call my son Danny - he said he could order one for me, but decide to just call a cab instead.

The mechanic had a number of a service they used, so called and got me a cab.

Good news: A van shows up in about fifteen minutes.

Bad news: He had a flat tire.

Turns out the driver picked up a nail (not as a passenger) that flattened the back driver’s side tire.

The mechanic, who probably envisioned a nice quiet Sunday before I showed up, plugged the tire, and in a few more minutes I was on my way home.

On the way I talked about how I was house bound for the next few days, but was in walking distance of food.

Then he said, “Well, as long as you have some nice scotch at home, everything will be fine.”

Bless his heart.

Bad news: The ride cost me fifty-dollars between fare and tip.

Good news: Yes, I have more than enough scotch at home to last me during this lock down...
